Clean Energy Spotlight: Alex Fox

This week’s clean energy spotlight is a U.S. Army veteran who has been working at the intersection of construction and clean energy for 10 years. Alex Fox, one of the Faces of Clean Energy, is senior project manager at Sustainable Comfort Inc. They’re a Massachusetts-based green building company that specializes in multifamily housing. Alex works with architects to develop construction plans that simultaneously maximize the value of buildings for property owners and the quality of the environment for occupants. Sustainable Comfort's mission is to create intentional and energy-efficient dwellings.

While Alex was introduced to the clean energy industry in college, his affinity for sustainability stems from his youth. His uncle, who “works for a large-scale wind turbine facility,” inspired him to enroll in a renewable energy program after initially completing a resident construction program at the State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology at Morrisville.

Prior to entering the clean energy workforce, Alex served as a U.S. Army officer, gaining valuable experience in homeland security, emergency management, and grid operations. Not only did he valiantly serve our country, but he also highlights the importance of serving his community in upstate New York: “Clean energy has really been a driving force in NY. Affordable housing is on the path forward to mandat[ing] that all projects use electric heating/cooling,” he said. While the U.S. has a legacy of depending on fossil fuels, “clean energy jobs should be invested in heavily,” to bolster the next generation of clean energy workers.

Throughout his career, Alex has earned recognition for his work, as his accolades speak for themselves. From constructing the first affordable PHIUS Certified apartments in Canandaigua, New York, to being recognized as a “2020 LEED Homes Award Recipient”, Alex is making an impact in the fight against climate change.

Thank you, Alex, for your commitment to clean energy and serving our country. Congratulations on being this week’s #cleanenergyspotlight.
