Experts Warn of the Real Economic Danger of Project 2025 for America’s Clean Energy Industry

WASHINGTON, DC Today, clean energy leaders raised alarms over the economic threats posed by Project 2025. Experts outlined how the proposed policies in Project 2025, which would roll back the Biden-Harris administration's Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), would undermine the nation’s clean energy progress, leading to job losses, increased energy costs, and more pollution.

Andrew Reagan, Executive Director of Clean Energy for America, Lena Moffitt, Executive Director of Evergreen Action, and Shara Mohtadi, Co-Founder of S2 Strategies, provided detailed insights from first-of-its-kind modeling into how bad Project 2025 would be from the nonpartisan group Energy Innovation. The analysis found that if Project 2025 were implemented, it would tank booming clean energy industries, resulting in $320 billion in annual GDP losses, 1.7 million clean energy jobs lost, and $32 billion in higher household energy costs by 2030.

Moffitt added, “Project 2025 would be nothing short of a full-scale assault on our progress—and it comes at a time when we can least afford it. Right now, we’re seeing the devastating impacts of the climate crisis in real-time. This hurricane season alone, with storms like Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene, we’ve witnessed catastrophic flooding, loss of life, and widespread devastation.”

Participants underscored the urgency of protecting the progress made under the IRA and warned that Project 2025 would push the U.S. back into reliance on costlier, polluting energy sources.
