Clean Energy for America Statement on Supreme Court Decision to Allow EPA to Enforce Power Plant Standards

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, America’s consumers and workers got a surprise win as the U.S. Supreme Court rejected an emergency request from 20 Republican state attorneys general and industry groups, allowing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to temporarily enforce the Biden-Harris administration’s standards to slash toxic pollution coming from U.S. power plants. In response, CE4A Executive Director Andrew Reagan released the following statement:

“Today’s decision is a win for America’s families, workers and the economy. The Biden-Harris power plant standards will reduce harmful pollution and save consumers money while strengthening the workforce and electrical grid.

“In a way, it’s sad this ruling is such a surprise. These reasonable, commonsense protections clearly benefit America’s workers, consumers, and communities. Yet, this conservative Supreme Court and its MAGA-aligned justices have consistently and alarmingly favored polluters over people.

“These protections aren’t safe yet. In fact, under this conservative Supreme Court, no pro-consumer, pro-worker, pro-clean energy protections are safe. The polluters in this case and their allies in state governments will continue to seek to stop these rules. Our clean energy future is on the ballot this November.”
