Clean Energy for America Statement on Speaker Johnson’s Remarks on Repealing the Inflation Reduction Act

WASHINGTON, DC House Speaker Mike Johnson recently declared that “unwinding” the Inflation Reduction Act is a top priority for Republicans in 2025 if they retain control of the House, cementing the stakes for the 330,000 clean energy jobs sparked by the clean energy investments in the law. In response, CE4A Executive Director Andrew Reagan issued the following statement:

"Speaker Johnson’s commitment to 'unwind' the Inflation Reduction Act is a direct attack on America’s clean energy future. Gutting the IRA will cost hundreds of thousands of jobs, hike energy prices, and weaken our energy independence. Let this be a reminder to everyone: Congressional Republicans mean what they say. They want to destroy or outsource all these good-paying U.S. clean jobs in manufacturing and deployment. They have voted 51 times to repeal the clean energy plan, although a majority of clean energy jobs have been created in their districts. The clean energy workforce is watching and is well aware that such repeals would take our country backward at a time when the priority should be protecting economic growth, consumer costs, and energy security with domestic power like clean energy.”
