CE4A Business Leaders Join 300 Other Clean Energy Executives in Letter to Congress Defending Inflation Reduction Act

The letter cautioned against congressional efforts to “repeal or weaken the Inflation Reduction Act… the catalyst for our growing industry.”

WASHINGTON, DC – This week, over 300 clean energy business leaders sent a letter to Congress, in which they urged policymakers not “to repeal or weaken the Inflation Reduction Act, which has served as the catalyst for our growing industry.” Joining the signatories were members of the Clean Energy for America network. About the letter, they provided the following statements:

  • Kiran Bhatraju (Washington, DC), Founder and CEO, Arcadia:
"Arcadia is providing the benefits of community solar to 200,000 households today, but that's a drop in the bucket compared to what we know this market can be. Thanks to the IRA, we're seeing rapid growth in community solar and are on track to help millions of families save money while supporting local clean energy. We know that the IRA is working, and repealing any part of it would harm American families."

  • Gilbert Campbell (Washington, DC), Founder and CEO, Volt Energy Utility:
“The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has had an immediate positive impact on our economy by creating high-paying jobs, investing in new carbon-free emission projects, and spurring domestic solar and storage manufacturing facilities. Historically, workers from disadvantaged minority and rural communities have been left behind during economic transitions. The IRA has rightly prioritized investment in these communities, setting America on a path to long-term, equitable economic growth. It strengthens our domestic supply chains, reduces carbon emissions to combat climate change, lowers household energy costs, and creates high-paying jobs. For all these reasons, I strongly encourage Congress to halt efforts to repeal the IRA and support an equitable energy transition that benefits all Americans."

  • Jon Powers (Buffalo, NY), Co-Founder and President, CleanCapital:
“We are at a transformational moment where for the first time, policy, markets and technology are aligned in a way to scale the solutions the private sector has been working on to address the climate crisis. Business leaders across the nation are seeing firsthand how the Inflation Reduction Act has sparked innovation, attracted private sector investment, spurred domestic manufacturing, and is creating good paying American jobs. We also understand that rolling back the clean energy provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act would be like pulling the rug out from underneath our industries and the people who work in them.”

  • Tom Soto (Santa Monica, CA), Founder, Latimer Partners, LLC: “The Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure bill are the most patriotic and ambitious pieces of legislation addressing modern needs for economic development. Economic development that embraces all communities, all economics and is developing a clean and less carbon driven America!”
