Clean Energy for America Statement Opposing House’s Anti-Clean Energy National Defense Authorization Act

WASHINGTON, DC Today, the U.S. House of Representatives approved several anti-clean energy amendments to its National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Those amendments end funding for President Biden’s Climate Change Executive Orders. They prevent Pentagon funds from being used for electric vehicles or charging infrastructure, and they prohibit funds from requiring travel or transportation under the Joint Travel Regulations for Uniformed Services to be in a zero-emission vehicle.

In response to these partisan attacks on U.S. clean energy, CE4A Executive Director Andrew Reagan issued the following statement:

“These proposals represent a step backward and pose significant risks to our national security by forcing reliance on outdated energy sources that are susceptible to political tensions and market fluctuations.

"Every year, Congress invests in U.S. military readiness and defense by passing the NDAA, or the National Defense Authorization Act. However, once again, House Republicans are putting the fossil fuel industry’s wish list ahead of national security by advancing policies that seek to both attack U.S. clean energy workers and deepen our dependence on oil and gas — on the battlefield and the homefront. We call on the House and Senate to reject these harmful proposals in the final conference bill. Real energy security is powered by resilient clean energy technologies that make us safer and drive economic growth.”
