(Washington, D.C.) – Today, with candy, party games like "pin the plug on the EV,” and lots of Capitol Hill staff and interns, Clean Energy for America celebrated the first anniversary of President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act. The event, themed like a birthday party, launched the celebration season for the historic clean energy law, which was enacted on August 16, 2022 after U.S. senators reached a deal on July 27, 2022.
Held in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, the IRA birthday party featured clean energy themed activities. Guests decorated paper pinwheels to look like vibrant wind turbines, and they played "pin the plug on the electric vehicle.”
“We’re celebrating this because America’s clean energy workforce is celebrating, because America’s consumers are celebrating. The IRA has already been a big deal for them, and it will continue to be,” said Andrew Reagan, the executive director of Clean Energy for America. “Nothing can hold a candle to the economic power that’s been so swiftly unleashed by the president’s Affordable Clean Energy Plan and the IRA’s investments in American jobs and manufacturing.”
“Clearly, the Inflation Reduction Act calls for a celebration,” said Sarah Mason, the deputy executive director of Clean Energy for America, “People are excited about what this law is unlocking for workers and consumers, and we wanted to bring their excitement to the halls of Congress. Despite what some partisan House members have tried, the American people don’t want the Affordable Clean Energy Plan to be repealed. They don’t want the savings or jobs to disappear. They don’t want the music to stop.”
The party follows reports about the incredible impact and success of the law, which invested $369 billion dollars in clean energy jobs, manufacturing, and consumer savings. Climate Power recently found the IRA has already spurred over 170,000 jobs in 44 states, and experts at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and BlueGreen Alliance expect the total to reach as high as 9-million jobs in 10 years.
