Celebrating Fathers in Clean Energy
Father’s Day is this Sunday. For those celebrating, we wanted to shine a spotlight on the dads in clean energy, who work every day to create a better world for their kids. There are countless dads in clean energy who fit this description. Here are what some of them said about why they think clean energy is so important.
Jim Purekal is a dad who works in solar in Washington, DC. He’s committed to clean energy because he wants to leave a better world for his daughter. “I want my five-year old daughter to one day experience energy freedom that isn't impacted by overseas conflicts, or whether we need to drill into the earth's surface,” he said.
Alex Fox is a father working in energy efficiency in New York, and has similar thoughts as to why he works in clean energy. “I want to leave a legacy for my children and make a lasting impression for them to aspire to,” he said.
There is a common interest across many of the parents who work in clean energy — the future. Clean energy dad Bryan Grauss, who works in solar in California, said “electrification is the future. In order to meet our climate goals, we need action NOW to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy technologies.”
Another clean energy father, Jonathan Monken of Virginia, also sees clean energy as important for the future. “Long-term economic growth and national security both depend on U.S. ability to address the training, funding, manufacturing and implementation of a comprehensive strategy to facilitate the clean energy transition,” he said.
Nate Hausman, a dad and advocate for clean energy from Vermont, is straight to the point when discussing the need for clean energy: “Clean energy represents an investment in the future.”
Lots of these dads see clean energy as a key part of the future their kids will grow up in. Stephen MacDonald, who works with smart grids in Oregon, looks “forward to educating [his] children” that the planet is home to “many extremely small, vulnerable ecosystems, and we all need to work together to protect them.”
For many of the dads working in clean energy, it’s more than just a job. It’s a way to leave a better world for the next generation. Many of them feel pride in their work, but also a sense of duty to leave a better world for their kids, driven by love.
To all the fathers out there doing what they can to create a better world for your children, thank you. To everyone celebrating, Happy Father’s Day!
