Clean Energy Spotlight: Kacie Peters

Our latest #cleanenergyspotlight is a talented marketer and advocate who actually got started in clean energy through a dating app. But first, do you know someone who deserves recognition for their contributions to #cleanenergy? Nominate them below.

Kacie Peters is this week’s spotlight. She’s director of industry relationships at Pivot Energy. Her company sells subscriptions to #communitysolar projects. And with those subscriptions, customers can save on their energy bills with #solar power but without having to own or install any solar panels. It’s especially valuable for renters and low-income families who maybe couldn’t own or lease panels even if they wanted to.

Kacie helps Pivot collaborate with other organizations and businesses, to make it possible for the company to offer those subscriptions and savings. “Basically what I do is speak for Pivot with our industry,” she recently told {tag} Mindy Prefling and {tag} Spencer Ogden’s Soapbox Podcast. “I get to figure out how Pivot can be involved with really interesting new projects and promising new partners.”

How did Kacie get into clean energy? Through a dating app, actually. She happened to go out with an engineer who worked at a residential solar company. They didn’t hit it off, but Kacie felt inspired by what he shared about his work in the industry. She realized her experience in politics and marketing could be very valuable and useful.

Fifteen years later, Kacie has been introducing countless people to #solarenergy in marketing and sales at Suntricity Power, Renewable Energy Alternatives, and Microgrid Solar.

Lately, Kacie has also been introducing people to the meaning of courage. In 2019, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. And if you can believe it, her husband was diagnosed with it too. It’s terrible.

Kacie is now working even harder to balance her job with her chemotherapy, with her husband’s cancer treatments, and with the day-to-day care of her five-year-old son.

But she’s not hiding away. Kacie is telling her story. “If I'm public about my illness and my company is public about their accommodations, it means that other people who need accommodations can also feel like they are heard, and it feels less scary for them,” she told Mindy Prefling on Spencer Ogden’s Soapbox Podcast

By sharing, she hopes to inspire people, especially those suffering from chronic, long-term illnesses. “You can be a professional. You can be great at your job, and you could also have these personal issues to deal with.”

We’re in awe of Kacie’s courage, strength, openness, and advocacy. And in honor of her career and her fight, we’re proud to celebrate her as our latest #CleanEnergySpotlight.
