Clean Energy Spotlight: John Moran

John Moran is a former high school science teacher turned clean energy pro, and at the end of the school year and the start of a sunny summer, John is this week’s #CleanEnergySpotlight.

John started working in #cleanenergy in 2006, but his career goes back further than that. His background in both science and finance helped him become a leader in developing #solar energy projects.

After graduating from Notre Dame, John started working at Morgan Stanley. After a few years, John changed career paths to become a high school science teacher. He taught earth science and biology in New York City.

This passion for science served him well in his next role, his first role working in clean energy, as the VP of Business Development at altPOWER. Over the next decade, John continued his career in #solar and renewable energy at enXco, Suntech, AL-G Technologies and sPower.

After working directly in #solarenergy, John joined Goldman Sachs as a Vice President in their Renewable Power Group, and he helped develop their company’s community solar program.

In 2021, John became a Managing Director and Co-head of Community Solar at Lafayette Square. He’s also the Head of Business Development at Reactive. His work in community solar helps bring #solar energy to underserved areas and is essential to making sure no communities are left behind by the transition to #cleanenergy.

After all these years, he still has the heart and community-mindedness of a teacher. His work in community solar is a key part of making sure everyone can benefit from the jobs and cost savings solar energy creates.

We would like to thank John for his years of work growing solar power in the communities that need it most.
