Washington, D.C. — Today, just hours before House Republicans passed their budget framework, Senators Curtis (R-UT), Murkowski (R-AK), Moran (R-KS), and Tillis (R-NC) issued a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune defending crucial energy tax credits that have driven substantial economic growth in their states and across the country. The letter signals growing Republican support for energy tax credits that have ushered in billions in investments, created hundreds of thousands of good-paying manufacturing jobs, and lowered electricity bills across the country. While the House passed its budget resolution, teeing up the next step in the reconciliation process, lawmakers in both chambers are speaking out to preserve these energy incentives that have benefited their own districts and states.

In response to the Senate letter, Clean Energy for America President Andrew Reagan issued the following statement:

“We thank Senators Curtis, Murkowski, Moran, and Tillis for standing up for American energy jobs. Their message is clear: repealing these critical energy tax credits would immediately increase costs for consumers and businesses alike, create economic uncertainty, and undermine our nation’s energy security. These credits mean lower costs, more jobs, and economic opportunities while ensuring American energy dominance—and we’re encouraged that a growing number of Republicans agree. As reconciliation moves forward, lawmakers in both chambers must work to preserve them to keep costs down for their constituents, help grow businesses in their districts, and ensure America has the energy we need for the 21st century.”

These senators specifically highlighted three key criteria for evaluating energy tax credits: their ability to drive domestic manufacturing and investment; reduce utility bills for consumers, especially in rural communities; and provide certainty for businesses that have already made significant investments based on the current credit structure. 

The letter comes less than a month after 21 House Republicans, in a similar letter, called for protecting these energy tax credits, which have brought a $130 billion investment boom to Republican-controlled districts across the country. These life-changing investments have lowered energy bills for households, spurred local economic growth, created thousands of good-paying jobs, and strengthened America’s energy security.
