In May, House Republicans passed a sweeping budget bill that threatens to derail America’s clean energy boom. The budget puts hundreds of thousands of jobs, lower electricity costs, and billions in investments at risk—even though it disproportionately hurts red districts. The bill’s impact goes beyond the economy: it poses serious national security and energy resilience risks by undercutting America’s ability to meet surging power demands driven by AI, crypto, and data centers, increasing our dependence on foreign energy, and ceding leadership in the global energy race to China.
The bill now heads to the Senate, where lawmakers have already voiced strong opposition to its assault on clean energy tax credits.
What Does the Disastrous House Bill Do?
Nearly 400,000 American Jobs at Risk
Clean energy tax credits support 400,000 jobs nationwide — good-paying careers that sustain families and communities. Most of these jobs are in Republican districts, where over $108.5 billion in clean energy investments have been fueling local economic growth.
In Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Michigan tens of thousands of workers depend on an industry that Republicans now want to essentially eliminate overnight.
Electricity Costs with Rise
Without these tax credits, every American household and business will pay the price:
At a time when costs are already high, the budget bill will make things worse for families and businesses — cutting off a significant way families have been slashing electricity costs and forcing them to pay higher.
This Bill Will Upend Biggest Industrial Revival in History
The clean energy sector represents America’s economic future, with more than $80 billion in supply chain projects under construction and over $100 billion in the planning pipeline. Hundreds of clean energy projects nationwide now hang in the balance.
This Bill Hands a Direct Victory to China
While this budget sabotages America’s energy future, China is racing ahead. The numbers tell the story: 56 percent of China’s electricity now comes from renewables, with 86 percent of China’s new energy capacity added last year coming from clean energy.
America Can’t Afford This Gamble
At a moment when AI, cryptocurrency, and data centers are driving unprecedented energy demand, Republicans want to cripple the fastest-growing source of new power generation. This isn’t just economically destructive — it’s strategically disastrous.
The choice is clear: America can lead the global energy transition and reap the economic benefits, or we can hand that leadership to China while workers, families, and businesses pay the price.
